Firearms Application & Registration System (FARS)


NOTE : Effective September 13, 2022, the required Course of Instruction in the lawful safe handling and storage of firearms is integrated into the application process for all INTIAL Firearms Purchaser Identification Cards.

If you are certain you reside in a New Jersey State Police (NJSP) covered area, identify which NJSP Station you need to apply to and utilize the correct ORI Number, Click here for the list. If you are not certain, contact the NJSP station to obtain the proper ORI before applying.

Class Info

This class is approximately 4 hours and provides the knowledge and instruction for safe handling of firearms which includes but is not limited to the safe storage of firearms, ammunition, as well as child  safety.
We will go over the Instructions for safe firearms shooting fundamentals. Live fire shooting exercises will be  conducted on a range. You will bring your own firearm,ammunition, safety glasses and ear protection to the range only. If you do not have materials please reach out to us and we can help.
We will also go over instruction regarding federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of firearms as well as the instruction regarding the laws of this State in the use of deadly force for self-defense and carry.
We will also go over proper techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution.

There is also a live shooting portion that requires a minimum of 50 scored rounds. There is a
minimum passing score of 80% using an FBI type Q target. This will consist of 10 rounds from the 15, 10, 7, 5, and 3 yard lines. You must demonstrate safe holstering and unholstering during the shooting course, which
must include safely drawing the weapon from a secured holster before firing at each of the required
distances and reholstering after completing the round. You must demonstrate proficient and safe reloading during the shooting course.

This is all mandatory as part of New Jersey's CCARE protocol, and will be deemed satisfied as per N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4

The Concealed Carry Permits service allows for online submission of both initial and renewal applications. Approved applications are due for renewal every two (2) years. Renewal applications can be submitted up to four (4) months before the expiration date. Concealed Carry Permit applicants need to have been fingerprinted for firearms purposes in New Jersey and assigned an SBI number before they can apply for a Concealed Carry Permit. If you have never been fingerprinted for firearms purposes in New Jersey before, start with an application for an Initial Firearms I.D. card
You will Need:
  • SBI Number
  • Upload of recent photograph (on a light background including head and shoulders)
  • One (1) training record completed within the past two (2) years, instructor name, and qualification date
  • Personal Information: including Social Security Number and Driver's License Number
  • Background Information
  • Contact Information for four (4) non-family related references
  • Information on handguns to be carried
  • $200 Application Fee
  You will need your Firearms ID card (not needed for non-residents). This will have your SBI number which is what they use for your fingerprint records, if you do not have one you must apply for one prior to submitting your application. You will need your town ORI number (will be on your firearms ID card). You will need your 4 references and the serial number of your firearm(s), as well as the completed class certificate. Make sure you have all the information prior to starting your online application because the system will time out and you will have to start over.
If you have not lived in NJ for the last 10 years or you are an out of state resident you will need to fill out the SP66 form.

Completion of classes do not guarantee you will receive your carry license. Above fees do not include application fees, state requirement fees ammo or firearms. Call or email for more info
